FAQ

  • When will you be on call for me?
I will be on call for you from 38 weeks, until your baby is born so you can contact me at any hour of the day or night whenever you go into labour.
  • How many clients do you take on at a time?
I currently only take on 1-2 births a month, including my photography clients. This is because I’m on call from 38 weeks and it is my highest priority to be available for all of my clients when they go into labour and also support them during their labour for as long as they need. As your doula, I will be on call for you from 38 weeks, until your baby is born so you can contact me at any hour of the day or night whenever you go into labour.
  • Do you offer payment plans?
Yes!! I want to make sure this is affordable for you! If you need to talk to me about a payment plan then please don’t hesitate. I know birth support is well worth the investment, for both you and your baby. Gift vouchers are also available so why not ask your friends and family to contribute as a baby blessing gift.
  • When is the final payment due?
The final payment is due before 37 weeks.
  • How many times do I see you before I go into labour?
We will have 3 antenatal sessions together so we have lots of time to get to know each other and go over your birth wishes. You also have 24/7 access to me via phone or email so you can contact me during anytime of your pregnancy.
  • When will you arrive?
I can arrive whenever you need support. Sometimes this can be during early labour or active labour, it just depends on how you are doing. We keep in close contact in the last few weeks of pregnancy and you update me whenever you start having early signs of labour. Once your labour starts to progress then I will come whenever you would like me to arrive.
  • How long do you stay after the birth?
I normally stay between one to two hours after the birth. During this time there are lots of things happening and it normally goes very fast because you have your beautiful baby in your arms. I can help you and your partner get everything organised after the birth, depending if the birth was a homebirth or hospital birth these things would be different.
  • What areas do you service?
I am based in Wollongong and I currently service clients across the Illawarra and Shoalhaven areas . If you are unsure if I service your area then please reach out. If you are wanting to book in with me but aren't in the areas that I normally service then you can pay an additional travel fee.
  • When will you be on call for me?
I will be on call for you from 38 weeks, until your baby is born so you can contact me at any hour of the day or night whenever you go into labour.
  • When will you arrive?
I arrive when you're in active labour. We keep in close contact in the last few weeks of pregnancy and you contact me whenever you start having early signs of labour. Once your labour progresses and your contractions are regular then I will come and take photos of your labour.
  • How long do you stay after the birth?
I normally stay between one to two hours after the birth so I can capture the beautiful moments like the first time breastfeeding, skin to skin, them being weighed and measured and meeting family or siblings if they are there.
  • How long will you stay for my labour and birth?
I will stay with you from active labour until your baby is born and will normally photograph the first 1 to 2 hours after the baby has been born. Due to birth being very unpredictable, we will never know how long you will be labouring for. This is why communication between us is really important in early labour so ensure I don't arrive too early or too late.
  • What will you photograph?
This is completely up to you! We will have plenty of time during our prenatal sessions to chat about what you feel comfortable with me photographing. If there is anything in particular that you would like captured or left out then I will be able to do that. It’s important to know that all the images taken at your birth won’t be posted or published to any website or form of social media without your direct and specific consent. I will ALWAYS ask you before I post an image to my website or socials.
  • What if the room is really dark?
I know how important it is to labour in a low lit room! My camera can function in low light but there still needs to be some source of light. This doesn’t mean the light has to be completely on, it can be fairy lights, electric candles, a little torch, a dome light in the corner of the room, or turn on a light in another room close by. You need to know that there is a possibility that your images will have a bit of ‘grain’ to them. This is because of limited lighting that's available but personally I think it adds character and rawness to the images and it helps tell the story of what the environment was like.
  • Do I need to let my care provider know that i'm having a birth photographer?
Yes I would definitely recommend letting them know. Some hospitals have a limit of support people that are allowed to be at your birth so it’s important that they are aware. There are usually no problems with homebirths because there is no limit on support people that are allowed to be present but it’s still a great idea to communicate this with your midwife.
  • Do you offer any other support during my birth?
I can be as involved as you would like me to. I know how important my energy is within the birth space and I will be there for you to connect with, if you wish. I am also a birth doula so I do offer a bundle with birth photography and doula support. This will include all prenatal, birth and postnatal support sessions. You can see this listed in my packages section.
  • What happens if I end up having an emergency caesarean section?
I wouldn’t be allowed into theatre in the case of an emergency caesarean but I would hand my camera over to a staff member (with settings correct for theatre) and allow them to shoot the birth. I then take over again when you arrive in recovery and capture the following hours after birth.
  • What if I plan a sceduled caesarean section?
I do photograph scheduled caesarean sections as long as your provider allows it. I come to the hospital one to two hours before the birth so I can capture the preparations and lead up to your birth. If for some reason the theatre team decide on the day that they would prefer not to have a photographer in theatre, I hand my camera over to a staff member (with settings correct for theatre) and allow them to shoot the birth. I then take over again when you arrive in recovery and capture the following hours after birth.
  • How many images are included in the package?
You will receive an online gallery of minimum 75 high resolution edited images (depending on the length of your labour this could be more). These can be printed and shared as many times as you would like.
  • When will I meet you?
During your pregnancy we have two sessions. These are very casual and can either be at a cafe or your home. Normally one when you book and another one around 35 weeks. This is to ensure we get to know each other on a personal level and you feel comfortable with me in your birth space. During these sessions we go through your birth plan and get to know each other. We also chat about everything birth photography and I answer any questions that you may have.
  • How many clients do you take on at a time?
I currently only take on 1-2 births a month, including my birth clients. This is because I’m on call from 38 weeks and it is my highest priority to be available for all of my clients when they go into labour and also support them during their labour for as long as they need. • What happens if you miss my birth?
Due to the nature of birth being very unpredictable, if I miss your birth for any reason then I will attend asap to photograph post birth, or you have the option to transfer part of your deposit to a postnatal shoot and the remaining will be refunded. This will be anytime in the first month after birth. Otherwise you can get a full refund. Please keep in mind that I have never missed a birth before, this is very rare. If I miss the birth because you didn’t communicate with me that you were in labour then you don’t have to pay the remaining balance of the package price but I keep your deposit as I have been on call for you and blocked my calender out for other clients.
  • Do you offer payment plans?
Yes!! I want to make sure this is affordable for you! If you need to talk to me about a payment plan then please don’t hesitate. I know these are the moments you will treasure for a lifetime. Gift vouchers are also available so why not ask your friends and family to contribute as a baby blessing gift.
  • When is the final payment due?
The final payment is due by 37 weeks.
